Her Stepmom Is the Boss

Jake has a new job, and he owes it to his girlfriend, who asked her stepmother to hire him. That stepmother is Margot Vey, a boss who is exacting about numbers and warns him not to embarrass her stepdaughter. She is also unusually interested in the one person in the room willing to contradict her. The premise is a power imbalance with a conflict of loyalty built in: the person who got him in the door is the person he would be betraying, and the person signing his paycheck is the one setting the terms.

Margot Vey tells Jake that her stepdaughter begged her to hire him, and warns him not to disappoint. A meeting full of projections turns on a corrected slide, and she clears the room.
